An eight-year-old girl has drowned in a dam in the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane.

The girl’s family reported her missing at Lake Dyer in Laidley late on Sunday afternoon afternoon, sparking a search involving police and emergency services.

She was found in the dam about 10 metres from a boat ramp.

Ambulance officers tried to revive her but she was pronounced dead on the way to hospital.
