Search resumes for man swept into ocean at Alexandria Bay on Qld’s Sunshine Coast
An air and sea search has resumed for a 21-year-old man from Saudi Arabia who is missing in waters off Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Police say the man was swept into the ocean at Alexandria Bay around 6:00pm (AEST) last night.
The man had been walking in the Noosa National Park with three other men.
Senior Sergeant Scott Nolan says the man climbed down a small cliff on the beach and walked out onto a rock where he was hit by a large wave.
“He was down on the rocks and had his back to the water and a wave’s come down and taken him into the ocean,” he said.
Police say they do not know if the missing man is a tourist.
A search involving water police, the coast guard and a rescue helicopter crew was suspended just after midnight (AEST) due to bad light.
Senior Sergeant Nolan says lifesavers have also joined the search today.
“All we know he’s been swept in there – he was last seen by his friends,” he said.
“Once they’ve realised they couldn’t see him they’ve contacted police.”
