Seven people have received medical care after a close call on a Sydney street when a young driver’s ute and another vehicle collided, sending the ute ricocheting into a knot of nearby pedestrians.

The Ford Ranger crashed head-on with a stationary rideshare vehicle near a bus stop in Burwood about 12.25am on Sunday, witnesses told police.

It then veered onto the footpath, colliding with five pedestrians and crumpling a rubbish bin, before hitting a second parked car.

The rideshare vehicle, a Toyota sedan, had been accepting a fare at the time of the crash.

The two people inside the rideshare vehicle and the pedestrians suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment but none were life-threatening, emergency services said.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and assisted police with inquiries. He was later released without charge.

Investigations by the NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit are ongoing.
