Magnitude 4.6 quake rattles residents north of Sydney

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake has shaken residents awake in parts of Sydney.
Geoscience Australia seismologists said the quake struck at 2.55am on Wednesday near the NSW Hunter Valley town of Singleton, about 200km north of Sydney.
An initial reading of the tremor registered it as a 5.1-magnitude quake.
Preliminary information indicated the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km.
More than 2600 people reported feeling the earthquake by 4am, including Sydneysiders, according to Geoscience Australia’s website.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake posed no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, islands or territories.
