A massive water pipe has burst in Sydney’s south, sending jets of water into nearby houses.

Emergency crews were in Binya Place, Como, on Friday afternoon, where a 1.5-metre-wide pipe was shooting out a massive amount of water, causing significant flooding to surrounding properties.

Residents in the area have been told to expect water supply issues.

The Nine Network has footage showing torrents of water pounding nearby houses.

Fire and Rescue NSW superintendent Adam Dewberry said four or five houses had been affected.

Nine said the pipeline connected to the Woronora Dam, which provides drinking water for the Sutherland Shire and some surrounding suburbs.

Sydney Water representatives were on the scene late on Friday afternoon, trying to shut off the deluge.

“Network technicians were on site assessing a leak on the main when it burst,” Sydney Water said.

Crews had isolated the main and repair work was under way.

Local residents have been warned to expect water shortages.
