Police have given a tragic update after two linked shootings in Sydney’s west overnight sparked a major manhunt.

NSW Police said the body of a man was found early on Wednesday.

Sunrise reports the body is believed to be that of the man wanted over the shootings – one of which was a domestic incident.

The man fired at a house in Auburn about 10pm before fleeing the scene. About 10 minutes later he shot a male stranger in a car.

NSW Police said the timeline began when a house on Antwerp Street, Auburn, had its windows shot out.

The man, who was known to the occupants, had tried to get into the house before firing a shot in what police say was a domestic incident.

No one was injured, and the man fled before police arrived.

About 10 minutes later, officers were called to nearby Mona Street, following reports a man had been shot while in his vehicle.

A 55-year-old in the car told police he was confronted by an unknown man who fired a shot at the vehicle, hitting him in the neck. Ambulance NSW paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

The incidents are believed to be linked, and a second crime scene was established on Mona Street.

During a subsequent extensive search of the area, police found the body of a man in Duck Creek, Auburn, shortly after 2.15am Wednesday.

A firearm was also found and taken for forensic examination.

Police said the man’s death wasn’t being treated as suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Sunrise reports that the male body was that of the suspect wanted over the previous two shootings.

Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
