A man has been stabbed in the face, head and neck and a woman has been slashed in the throat during an attack in Sydney’s inner west.

The injured 25-year-old man is in a critical condition in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital following the attack on Sydenham Road at Marrickville on Thursday evening.

A 55-year-old woman was also treated for a stab wound to the throat, before being taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man at the scene and have charged him with two counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

He will appear before Newtown Local Court on Friday.

Police say all three people are known to each other.
