A Sydney woman has been charged with the theft of a Krispy Kreme truckload of doughnuts – 10,000 of them, in fact.

NSW Police were called to a service station in Carlingford, in north-west Sydney, two weeks ago after reports a truck had been stolen.

In a case that has made international headlines, the truck was nabbed after a delivery driver working the night shift made a quick stop at a 7-Eleven.

“Officers … were told an unknown woman allegedly stole a truck filled with doughnuts before driving away,” a media statement on Thursday said.

CCTV footage caught the truck – and its load of Christmas-themed and standard Krispy treats – being stolen on November 29.

The Krispy Kremes were intended for delivery to outlets in and around Newcastle. Instead, the truck was found abandoned in a carpark in Parramatta on December 8.

Sadly its cargo did not survive the heist.

“The doughnuts were destroyed,” police said, without any further elaboration.

News Corp reported that the “Krispy Kreme team” – led by head of supply Lenny Reddy – was working to replace the 10,000 stolen doughnuts.

The 28-year-old woman was arrested at St Marys railway station, in Sydney’s west, on Thursday morning. She was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket.

She was to appear in Penrith Local Court later on Thursday.
