A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Sydney Airport as he allegedly attempted to leave Australia for Syria, NSW Police said.
The man from Panania, in Sydney’s south-west, was arrested about 10:00am at the International Airport.
He has been taken to the Sydney Police Centre where he will be interviewed.
NSW Deputy Commissioner Dave Hudson said there was no threat to the community as part of today’s arrest.
“In light of recent events, both at home and overseas, it is now more important than ever for the community and police to continue to work together,” he said.
The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation, police said.
The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team will provide further details about the arrest and charges later today.
