A man has reportedly used a machete and sword in a brutal attack on his mother and girlfriend at a Sydney home that’s left the pair with extensive injuries.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in a nearby street, naked and armed with a sword, after taking off from the Emu Plains home when police arrived just before midnight on Sunday.

Police have confirmed the 58-year-old woman is the man’s mother and the 22-year-old woman is his girlfriend.

They were stabbed a number of times, but managed to lock themselves in a bedroom of the Lucas St home.

When police arrived, the man was trying to break down the door.

Both women were taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition with slash wounds to their heads, necks and stomach but their condition has stabilised.

The man was reportedly drug affected, and police are waiting for him to come down off those drugs so they can formally question him, according to the Seven Network.
