A woman was stabbed in the chest and hand after confronting two men who broke into her home in Sydney’s south west armed with a hammer and knife, police say.

Emergency services were called to the Styles Crescent, Minto home at 8.30am today where the 45-year-old woman was attacked, officers said.

Police alleged that the two armed males, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, entered the back door of the woman’s house.

A statement from NSW Police said the woman confronted the pair, who both had their faces covered, when they broke in.

“The woman became involved in a physical altercation with one of the males and pulled the shirt from his face after which he allegedly stabbed her,” the statement said.

It said she was stabbed on the right side of her chest and on her left hand.

The pair then fled over the rear fence with the woman’s mobile phone.

Officers searched the area for the men with the help of the dog squad and police helicopters but were not able to find them.

Police have seized the shirt the woman pulled off one of the men for forensic examination.

The males are described as being of a slim build, with one wearing a dark hooded jumper with a balaclava and blue eyes.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have asked for anyone who knows more about the incident to contact them.
