Son charged with dad’s murder
Police have charged a man with the murder of his father, who was killed during a home invasion in far northern New South Wales last year.
Michael Martin, 46, was stabbed to death during an early morning break-in at his Murwillumbah apartment last June.
The fatal attack came after another home invasion at the same flat in April left Mr Martin seriously injured.
Strike Force Areae, a joint operation between the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Tweed-Byron Local Area Command, was established to investigate the death.
Mr Martin’s 25-year-old son, who had said he suffered head injuries in the June attack, was arrested at Tweed Heads after a nine-month investigation.
Last weekend, the man had appealed through the media for information about his father’s death.
He has been charged with murder and will appear in court in Lismore later today.
