Bombs detonated in NSW, Queensland

Polie have safely detonated homemade bombs in two separate incidents on Tuesday, one in Bundaberg, Queensland, and another in Sydney.

An exclusion zone was established near a Bundaberg school on Tuesday afternoon when a member of the public discovered a crude explosive device on a footpath.

The bomb squad safely detonated the device at around 1am on Wednesday.

On Twitter, Queensland Police said while the incident was ‘concerning’, it was not terrorism-related.

Sydney police were also called to a home in Sydney’s west after a woman discovered a home-made bomb in her son’s bedroom on Tuesday night.

The Warrington County woman called police at 10.30pm after making the discovery in her 22-year-old son’s room.

Specialist police removed the device from the house after it was confirmed to be a crude explosive, and it was detonated at a nearby vacant parkland.

Video footage shows police removing several bags of items from the house.

Inquiries are continuing, police said.
