Police said the suspected murder was a domestic violence incident.

Shocked neighbours said the couple were gardening when an argument and screaming broke out.

Detective Inspector Dean Johnstone would not confirm witness allegations that the woman was attacked with a gardening implement.

The couple has three children who are in the care of friends.

“The woman appears to have sustained facial injuries,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“However, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death.

“The premises and will be examined by specialist forensic officers.”

Mr Eerceg is being questioned at Liverpool Police Station, but no charges have been laid.

Local newspaper Liverpool City Champion is reporting a resident phoned the paper after hearing a gunshot in the area.
