A man found dying on a footpath in Sydney’s inner west is believed to have been gunned down.

The fatally injured man was found on a footpath in Croydon Park about 1.30am on Sunday and treated for multiple injuries, which police suspect are gunshot wounds.

Attempts to save the man, who has not yet been formally identified, were unsuccessful and he died on Dunmore Street.

Neighbours have told police they heard a number of gunshots in the area shortly before the man was found.

A post mortem examination will be held this week to confirm the cause of the man’s death.
