Driver six times over the limit

A man has been caught drink driving six times over the limit after ramming a power pole, speeding off minus a tyre and mounting a curb, where he was detained by local residents until police arrived.

The 30-year-old was spotted about 11pm on Saturday behind the wheel of a Honda Jazz on Nepean Street at Emu Plains, in Sydney’s west.

Police have been told he crashed into the power pole but continued driving south along the street for another kilometre, even after one of the tyres came off the car.

When the Honda hit the kerb and came to a stop, he was nabbed by several locals and officers from St Marys Local Area Command were summoned.

The man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station, where a breath analysis returned a reading of 0.314, more than six times the legal alcohol limit.

He has been charged with high range PCA and granted conditional bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on September 8.
