A man has been shot dead in Sydney’s inner west.

The shooting took place in Railway Street, Petersham, about 11.10pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found on the footpath suffering a gunshot wound.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.
