Alleged thief’s bath excuse won’t wash with police

Police say a man has tried to fool them by pretending to be taking a bath during a pursuit at Nyngan in western New South Wales.

The 23-year-old man was allegedly seen trying to break into a car outside a local pub.

When police tried to approach him he ran off and was chased through a number of properties.

Police say he was tracked down to a house on Bogan Street and officers saw him through a window taking off his shirt and jumping into a bathtub.

When police entered the home the man allegedly said to officers, “What? I’m having a bath.”

The man – still wearing shorts and suffering cuts and abrasions from the chase – was arrested and taken to Nyngan Police Station.

He has been refused bail and will face Dubbo Local Court on charges of larceny, enter enclosed lands, and breach of bail.
