Dubbo council considers weir works
The Dubbo Council will tonight consider options for the South Dubbo weir, where two people have died since 2008.
The council has been urged to address safety works at the South Dubbo Weir as a matter of priority.
Recommendations from a recent workshop for possible changes at the weir include establishing a rock ramp, increasing the height of the spillway, decreasing the height of the weir, providing in-stream buoys and creating a safety point on each bank of the Macquarie River.
The council has been recommended to develop a safety awareness program for the upcoming swim season while the works are considered.
It says a fishing exclusion zone within the vicinity of the weir may also be considered.
The workshop also concluded that a fishway is warranted at the site.
