Fraud charge for woman accused of hiding mother’s death
A Sydney woman is facing fraud charges after she allegedly hid her elderly mother’s death while accessing her bank accounts.
The body of an 83-year-old woman was found a week ago at a home at Kellyville in the city’s north-west.
A crime scene was established at the house and an autopsy later confirmed she had been dead for a number of months.
There was no sign at the house of the woman’s 48-year-old daughter, who police say had been her mother’s primary carer.
Police arrested the daughter just before midday yesterday at a hotel at The Rocks in inner Sydney.
She was then charged with failing to report a death and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Police say she had been fraudulently accessing and obtaining money from her dead mother’s bank accounts.
The woman is being held in custody and is due to face Central Local Court today.
Police say their investigation is continuing.
