Teenager hit by car on pedestrian crossing

A teenager is in hospital after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in New Lambton yesterday afternoon.

About 3:30pm (AEDT) the 15-year-old was crossing Bridges Road with a sibling when he was struck by a southbound sedan.

He was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital with serious lower leg injuries and is in a stable condition.

The 64-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol tests.

The accident caused traffic gridlock in the area and police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
