Canberra floats ‘cool’ new number-plate ideas
Voters can choose to keep on of the current number-plates, such as this one.
Canberra could be set to push its status as “Australia’s cool capital” if voters choose the phrase as their new number-plate motto.
A panel of judges has whittled down nearly 2000 suggestions for the illustrious privilege of representing Canberra on the roads to 10 possibilities – and some are “cooler” than others.
Aside from “The cool capital”, there’s “Green and clean”, “Brilliant possibilities” and “An active city” – although the latter could be viewed as an ironic choice for something adorning a vehicle.
While judges had the job of finalising the top 10, Canberra residents are now eligible to vote for the catchphrase they feel best represents the nation’s capital.
Alternatively, voters can choose to keep one of the number-plates currently in circulation in Canberra.
And why wouldn’t they? With options like “Age friendly city” and “Feel the power of Canberra” to choose from.
Voting is now open to Canberra residents, and polls close on February 2.
