A blaze at a suburban Brisbane home has claimed the lives of two people.

Emergency services were called to a home in Cypress Street, Woodridge, just after 6pm on Sunday where the house was found engulfed in flames.

A woman in her 80s and a man in his 60s died at the scene.

Queensland Deputy Premier Cameron Dick knew the family, who lived in his electorate.

“She’s a wonderful person. She had become very unwell in her later years. She’d been very helpful to me as a local member of Parliament. She’s been very supportive of me personally,” he told ABC TV.

“This is a really terrific, terrific blow to our community … that you had a son caring for his mother and that they would both lose these lives in these terrible circumstances.”

Queensland Police are investigating the cause of the fire and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
