A paramedic has died after his ambulance crashed on his way to a code one emergency in North Queensland.

The Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic was the only one in the vehicle when it crashed in Benholme just after 8am on Monday, QAS said.

Authorities tried to save him but he died at the scene.
