Lawyers for accused killer Zlatko Sikorsky will argue teenager Larissa Beilby died as a result of “misadventure”.

Brendan Ryan told ABC News he believed his client was innocent and will claim the 16-year-old died as a result of a tragic accident. He will also argue her death was not caused by drugs.

“I think that when [the police] have done their job … they will discover he didn’t commit the murder,” Mr Ryan said.

“If they dot their Is and cross their Ts they will discover that he didn’t do anything and rather she may well have passed through misadventure.”

Ms Beilby’s body was discovered in a barrel south of Brisbane on Wednesday.

Homicide detectives charged Mr Sikorsky, 34, with murder after he surrendered to police following a 27-hour stand-off on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Mr Sikorsky spent the night at the Maroochydore watch house after the siege at an Alexandra Headland apartment complex came to a peaceful end just before 6.30pm on Saturday.

Police said the teenager had been missing since June 15 and was a known associate of Mr Sikorsky, who has also been charged with misconduct with a corpse.

He is due to face court in Maroochydore on Monday.

On Saturday night, Larissa’s family posted a tribute to the teenager on Facebook.

“With a broken heart shattered into more than a million pieces our family is utterly destroyed to inform you all that Larissa has been taken from us,” they wrote.

“Our beautiful girl has been reunited with our beloved wife and mother. Fly high our darling angel, until we see you again Rissy.”

Another friend wrote: “You were such a bright, talented and amazing girl who will be terribly missed”.

Queensland Police Acting Detective Superintendent Mark White said detectives worked around the clock on the case.

“Our thoughts are very much with Miss Beilby’s family as they come to terms with and mourn her death,” Acting Detective Superintendent White said.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance and co-operation throughout the early stages of this investigation.”

Two others charged with accessory to murder

A 40-year-old woman from the Sunshine Coast suburb of Palmwoods and 38-year-old Joseph Geiger from Alexandra Headland have been charged with being an accessory to murder.

Mr Geiger is accused of harbouring Mr Sikorsky in his apartment.

The woman faced the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday, and both she and Mr Geiger will return to court on Monday.

Superintendent Darryl Johnson briefed journalists just after 6.30pm on Saturday, saying the siege had been “resolved without safety being compromised”.

“It’s a great result. The police have done a fantastic job over the last 26 to 28 hours,” he said.

“The male person is now in custody.”

The search for Mr Sikorsky ramped up on Wednesday, when officers investigating Larissa’s disappearance went to a property in Buccan.

Later in the day, a Stapylton caravan park resident said she saw a female’s arm hanging from a barrel placed in the tray of a ute.

An emergency situation was declared on the Sunshine Coast on Friday afternoon, when it emerged Mr Sikorsky was in a unit complex.

Most residents were evacuated and roads were closed off, with specialist police called in for negotiations with the wanted man.
