‘Biggest cut in history’: How Angus Taylor’s migration plan could change Australia

Angus Taylor has promised “the biggest cut to immigration in the history of this country” – vowing to cut net overseas migration to 100,000 for two years if he wins office.

That would slash Australia’s temporary migration intake by 650,000 over four years.

Temporary graduate visas would be scrapped and new international students capped at 240,000. Australia’s humanitarian intake would be halved at 10,000 a year under the Coalition plan.

At a press conference that brought the return of the classic Coalition slogan “stop the boats”, there was also a new catch cry as Taylor tried to outmuscle Labor and One Nation – promising to “raise the standards and reduce the numbers”.
