Miss World Australia finalist killed in car crash

A Miss World Australia finalist has died in hospital after being involved in a car crash in far north Queensland.
Elyse Miller-Kennedy, 17, was flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition on August 3 following a head-on collision that left her trapped in her car for two hours.
According to police, Miller-Kennedy, who had only recently received her driver’s license, was not at fault in the crash.
She died on Wednesday afternoon after spending a week in intensive care, according to family friend who shared the tragic news in a post on the Facebook page Prayers for Elyse.
“We are absolutely devastated to announce Elyse Miller-Kennedy passed away yesterday afternoon at Townsville Hospital Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by beloved family and friends after losing her week long battle to live after a tragic head on collision on Wednesday 3rd August 2016,” the post read.
“Elyse will always be a shining light in the hearts of Far North Queensland, known for her caring nature, love of her family and incredible natural inner and outer beauty.”
The striking teenager from the town of Dimbulah, who was in year 12 at St Stephen’s Catholic College, had last month represented Queensland in the Miss World Australia finals.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and investigating whether the other car involved was on the wrong side of the road.
A fundraising page for Miller-Kennedy’s family had raised over $50,000.
