Jodie Foster has married her girlfriend of almost a year, photographer Alexandra Hedison, over the weekend.

People magazine has confirmed that the Oscar-winner, who has been coy about her sexuality in the past, is now a married woman.

Hedison, who previously dated talk-show host Ellen Degeneres, was first spotted with the 51-year-old actress just under a year ago at Fox Studios in Los Angeles.

Foster has never officially confirmed her sexuality, but made a powerful speech at last year’s Golden Globes which many perceived as her coming-out announcement.

“I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the stone age – in those very quaint days when a fragile girl would open up to trusted friends and family and coworkers and then gradually proudly to everyone who knew her,” Foster said in her speech.
