Surgeons will attempt to separate conjoined twins from Bhutan in a landmark operation scheduled for later this week in Melbourne.

The 14-month-old girls Nima and Dawa, joined at the torso, were flown to Melbourne earlier this month for assessment by a medical team at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“We feel are in a position to give mum her ultimate wish and we will go ahead with the surgery on Friday,” pediatric surgeon Joe Crameri told reporters on Tuesday.
