Collectors on Highway to Hell seeking sold out AC/DC coin

Coin collectors looking to get hold of the Royal Australian Mint’s new AC/DC 50 cent coin may have to revert to some Dirty Deeds after the issue was sold out almost immediately.
The RAM’s website has been jammed with interest in the coin, which had a mintage of 30,000 and was only available to Australian and New Zealand customers.
Featuring yellow lightning bolts and issued on a collector card the coin is now commanding more than double its original price of $15 on auction sites.
Prices range from $32 to $45, with many of the speculators who purchased bulk lots doubling their money within two days.
“We are experiencing a large influx of enquiries due to high interest in the recently released AC/DC products,” the Mint said on its website, explaining the delays.
“We will endeavour to respond to you within the next 48 hours. We appreciate your patience during this time.”
The coin marks the 45th anniversary of the band, which began in Australia in 1973 and become an international phenomenon.
Ten of the coins were also struck with artificial lightning using a Tesla coil at Canberra’s Questacon and will be randomly issued to those who ordered online.
