The writing skills of Australian schoolchildren have reached an alarming new low, NAPLAN test results have shown.
The collective writing abilities of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across Australia have declined since 2011 – the year NAPLAN introduced writing tests.
The greatest drops were seen among Year 9 students, with only 79.5 per cent achieving the national minimum standards for writing in 2018, compared with 84.8 per cent in 2011.
