Independent MP Billy Gordon cleared over sexting allegations

No charges will be laid against far north Queensland independent MP Billy Gordon over sexting allegations, police say.

Officers recently launched an investigation after three women made complaints about allegedly receiving explicit images from Mr Gordon.

Queensland Police said in a statement there was insufficient evidence to lay charges and the relevant parties had been informed.

At the time of the allegations earlier this month, Mr Gordon made a statement vowing to continue as the Member for Cook in the state’s far north.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said it was appropriate that sexting allegations against Mr Gordon were taken to authorities.

“I think that the woman in question made the right decision and went to the police,” she said.

“I understand that there is insufficient evidence for this issue to be investigated further and that’s all I can really comment on.”

Women who were allegedly sent explicit pictures by Billy Gordon say they’ve been let down by the system after investigations into the embattled MP were dropped.

Senior federal government MP Warren Entsch says he’s been in contact with at least one family member who said they would continue to pursue justice after police found there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Mr Gordon.

“I tell you what, if it had been my daughter he did it to, he would be walking around with his privates around his neck,” Mr Entsch said on Thursday.
