The father of three children killed when the 4WD their mother was driving ploughed into a lake in west Melbourne has refuted the ‘untruth’ that his partner crashed deliberately.

Distraught father Joseph Manyang said the tragic incident in Wyndham Vale on Wednesday afternoon, which resulted in the death of his adopted children Bol, 1, Anger, 4, and Madit, 4, was an accident.

“There is a lot of talking around, there is untruths,” Mr Manyang told SBS Radio.

His partner Ms Akon Guode, 35, could not have harmed the children “by herself” because “she love the kids”, Mr Manyang said.

Ms Guode, who was released from police custody on Thursday night after being questioned, has reportedly told her family she felt ‘very dizzy’ before the crash.

“Wait for the report from the police investigation, that will be the truth,” her partner said.

The couple’s daughter Awel, 5, remains in a serious condition in the Royal Children’s Hospital, downgraded from critical.

Mr Manyang said he was shocked by the deaths of his children, who he described as “always happy”.

“It is a big shock for me to get this information. It has happened to me, to lose three children at once.”

Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.

The car has been pulled from the lake and the Major Collisions Unit will examine the vehicle as part of investigations to find out whether the fatal smash was an accident or not.

Community members have said Ms Guode came to Australia from South Sudan to escape war after her first husband died.
