Senator John Madigan ‘to launch own political party’

Independent Senator John Madigan has reportedly joined a string of micro-party politicians in attempting to create his own political party.
‘The John Madigan Manufacturing and Farming Party’ has applied to be registered with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), Fairfax Media first reported.
Senator Madigan reportedly told Fairfax Media he was launching the party in response to “increasing discontent” with the major parties, especially in rural areas.

An AEC spokesman told The New Daily he was constrained by official rules from confirming or denying the report, which alleges the application will be announced on Thursday.
“That may or may not be true,” he said.
Prospective new parties undergo a rigorous vetting process before their application is publicly announced, the spokesman said.
If it is accurate that the AEC will announce Senator Madigan’s party application on Thursday, the spokesman confirmed the application would have been received a week or more ago.
The Victorian senator quit the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) in September last year, promising to serve the remainder of his term as an independent.
