Does this offend you? Grad mum cops flak over pic

A 24-year-old Sunshine Coast mother who completed her university degree despite giving birth to two children during her course has been bombarded with criticism for breastfeeding her young son at her graduation.
The University of the Sunshine Coast shared a photo of Jacci Sharkley breastfeeding her six-week old son in her graduation gown on Facebook which has gone viral with almost 200,000 ‘likes’.

“Just wanted to share a photo from the most recent graduation that I am proud of,” Ms Sharkley wrote after graduating from a human resource management degree.
“I’m extremely proud that with the support of the Uni, during my degree I was able to have two babies and still finish my degree.”
The majority of comments have been positive but the breastfeeding photo has met some criticism, with some saying Ms Sharkley didn’t need to show herself nursing her son.
Others were more supportive of Ms Sharkley and the breastfeeding image, saying that negative comments about the photo highlighted negative attitudes toward breastfeeding in public.
Ms Sharkley said the photo was meant to celebrate her achievements and encourage other young mothers, rather than be a statement on breastfeeding.
“It wasn’t a statement [on breastfeeding] or anything like that. I would have sent the same picture to the uni had he [Alek] had a bottle or a sandwich … it was just the fact that I’m a mum, it’s not I’m a breastfeeding mum, just I’m a mum,” she said.
“It was really a message of thanks and that other mums can do it as well.”
