In black and white
There was a strong theme for fashion this winter at Myer, stay monochromatic and keep things interesting with a print.
For Myer, the autumn/winter show is important, it’s a chance to decorate its flagship designers and wheel out Jennifer Hawkins, Kris Smith and its cavalcade of fresh faced models.
This year there were no theatrics, just a reliance on simplicity and a good soundtrack.
From the stunning opening gown from Maticevski – a modern take on a 50s classic styled full skirted frock – the women’s collections were mostly bold and beautiful, with some softly feminine contrasts from Bul and Fleur Wood.
Of course, Australia’s fashion elite were on call to ooh, aah and be photographed – everyone looking splendid.
But back to the business of fashion, let’s look at what Australia’s biggest department store will have you wearing this winter.
Black and white prints

Quirky, fun and classy, Manning Cartell’s wolf print is a sure hit this season.

Black and white
While the prints were strong, block black and white made a sleek winter statement, such as this monochrome skirt and top at Ellery, with beautiful bell sleeves.

Offset the harsh winter with this soft ivory at Bul.
Kate Peck was a cool bombshell in this sleeveless black sequinned Yttrium dress.
Colour splash
Yeojin Bae broke the monochrome revolution with brilliant aqua and peach.
Tome’s soft collection brought warmth to the cold weather fashion including this pretty metallic pink shift dress.
Beanies
A surprisingly prolific addition, the catwalk paid homage to street style with statement beanies, the cream at Maticevski and the black at Fleur Wood.
For the men
White was out for men, with a winter palate of black grey and a splash of purple ruling the men’s collections.
Kris Smith was classic in black for Autonomy.
An all purple ensemble will be only for the fashion forward at Blaq.

Off the runway
For the crowd outside, it wasn’t what was on the catwalk they cared about, but who was wearing what on the red carpet outside.
Jennifer Hawkins hammed it up for the crowd before the event, and was in the party spirit after the show too.
Rebecca Judd looked gorgeous, commanding attention from photographers through the early evening.
Two notoriously happy and friendly guys, Kris Smith and Harry Kewell, became even more animated and friendly in a long chat to each other after the show. Kewell’s wife Sheree Murphy looked like the life of the party in a fun pink dress.
Designer Kim Ellery, who controversially defected from David Jones, looked sharp in black, with her collection also impressing the fashion crowd.
After the show, the crowd merged on the runway for champagne and Finlandia vodka cocktails.
