ACCC drops casino investigation
An investigation into possible collusion between Australia’s largest casino operators has uncovered no wrongdoing.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found there was no evidence of market sharing by James Packer’s Crown and Echo Entertainment, which owns a casino in Sydney and three in Queensland.
Echo chairman John O’Neill was quoted in July as saying Mr Packer had told him Crown would not enter the Queensland market if Echo “behaved”.
“The ACCC conducted a thorough investigation of the issues and concluded that there is insufficient evidence to suggest that there has been a contravention of the competition laws,” it said.
