Nine News anchor Peter Hitchener might have spent more than five decades on camera, but the TV veteran can still surprise viewers.

During a nightly news segment on Wednesday night, the 70-year-old decided to change things up by adding some lyrical flow to his broadcast.

Hitchener was reporting on American rapper Vanilla Ice losing his cool after missing a plane flight and, naturally, decided to incorporate some of rhymes from Ice’s hit song Ice, Ice Baby.

“I’ll stop, collaborate and listen,” Hitchener began the rhyming report, which has since had more than 350,000 views on Facebook.

Watch Peter Hitchener’s rhyming report:

Social media users have described Hitchener’s performance as “adorable” and “epic”.

Clearly not immune to his own sense of humour, the well-loved anchor struggled to contain a giggle at the end of his report.
