Bike rider literally takes car into his own hands

Bike riders and cars may share the roads, but they don’t always see eye to eye.

As a bike rider, it can be pretty annoying when suddenly faced with a car parked across your lane.

The most common reaction (especially for mere mortals) is to simply ride around the offending vehicle.

A particularly strong Finnish cyclist was clearly fed up with the status quo when he spied a small, European car parked across a bike lane.

Instead of riding around, the man decided to inject some brawn into the situation.

Happily, the event was captured on video and has racked up over 3 million YouTube views since it was uploaded on Monday.

In the video, confused and excited witnesses watch as the beefy bike rider picks up the car and moves it to a horizontal position, clear of the bike track.

One onlooker runs over to lend a hand, but the large cyclist shrugs off any need for help.

The video is titled “O homem mais forte do mundo” or “The strongest man in the world”.

While it’s difficult to verify the claim, lifting and moving a small car would probably at least put you in the top ten.

In Australia, commuters who may be tempted onto two wheels are being switched off by alarming safety statistics.

In 2013, there was a 40 per cent spike in cycling deaths on Australian roads, and while cyclists pointed the finger at drivers, those behind the wheel blamed overly-zealous cyclists who disobeyed the road rules.

Studies show that cycling is particularly good for women’s health, and that more should be done to improve safety in order to get more females on bikes.
