An alleged high-profile Australian drug trafficker with an international warrant out for his arrest has been nabbed in Lebanon.

The 42-year-old dual Australian-Lebanese national, who wasn’t identified by Australian Federal Police, was allegedly directing “the global activities of an organised crime syndicate”.

Australian Federal Police said the man was arrested after an Interpol Red Notice was triggered by Australia for drug trafficking and money-laundering-related offences.

He is suspected of brokering and organising multiple drug shipments to Australia on behalf of a wide range of criminal syndicates from around the world during the past 11 years.

The 42-year-old was one of a “significant number of people” arrested by the Lebanese Internal Security Forces with intelligence provided by the AFP, police said.

Some of those detained include men with alleged criminal links to Australia.

He is expected to face legal proceedings in Lebanon for drug trafficking and money laundering offences.
