An Australian man has reportedly been arrested in connection with the murder of a teenage girl in Thailand.

Simon Carman, 45, from Ballarat, was arrested on Friday evening at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.

He has been charged with four offences, including murder, which carries the death penalty or life in prison. Police said he denies the charges.

The body of Tunchanok Donhomla, 17, was found in a black suitcase next to a railway in Pattaya, according to local media reports.

Police allege he picked up the teenager from the Beach Road vice strip in Pattaya in the early hours of Thursday morning, local time.

CCTV footage obtained by Pattaya News 24 shows the victim entering an apartment complex in the resort town with the suspect on June 25 in the early hours of the morning.

A separate camera appears to capture the suspect leaving the residential building alone later that evening, and wheeling a large black suitcase.

The teenager’s friends reported her missing on Friday afternoon after they did not hear from her.

Police retraced her last moments to the hotel room that she had entered with Carman.

Local reports allege the suitcase was loaded onto a motorcycle and later found by police near a railway roughly four kilometres away.

Carman was stopped at about 9.30pm on Friday while preparing to travel on a Jetstar flight to Perth.

Carman is reportedly now in detention in Pattaya Prison.

In a video taken after his arrest, he was asked about scratches on his neck.

“I think it’s a spider; they always get in here,” he said.
