Footage released after baby sprayed with fire extinguisher

Police have released footage of two people they believe sprayed a fire extinguisher into a car, injuring a five-month-old baby.

The pair, believed to be teenage boys, were aboard an e-bike when they aimed the fire extinguisher into the open back window of a car stopped at traffic lights in High Street, in Queensland’s Sippy Downs, on Sunday night.

Baby Pixie was in the back seat of the car, which was being driven by her father. She took the full force of the spray.

“The car just filled up with gas and white powder straight away,” Pixie’s mother Tiffani Teasdale said.

“[Pixie] was completely covered in white powder and just looked like she was in shock, she wasn’t even crying.”

Teasdale said the incident was horrific.

“We were in hospital until very early morning and they had to put 100 millilitres of saline solution into her eyes,” she told the ABC.

“I’ve never heard her scream like that before, I actually had to leave the room.

“The doctors had to hold her down for me because it was the most horrible thing I’ve ever heard … no one should have to go through that.”

Pixie has since been discharged from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Teasdale’s partner is also recovering.

“Obviously it was a very traumatic experience for both of us, especially him as he was there. But we are both doing OK,” Teasdale said.

“[Pixie is] as happy as ever. She is not showing any signs of breathing issues – her skin is a little bit irritated … but other than that she is doing really well.”

Queensland Police said on Thursday the fire extinguisher used in the incident had since been confirmed to have been stolen from a nearby car park on Courage Street, Sippy Downs, earlier on Sunday night. It was found ditched not far from the High Street traffic lights.

The e-bike riders wore full-face motorcycle helmets and black puffer jackets. They were caught on security camera footage.

Anyone who recognises the pair is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
