A woman has been fatally stabbed in a Brisbane home, sparking a homicide investigation.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address on Oxford Street in Hamilton about 8.45am on Thursday.

The woman in her 40s was stabbed several times, including in the chest, and was taken to hospital but died of her injuries, police said.

A 55-year-old woman is assisting police.

The women were known to each other and officers had attended the building previously for disturbances, police said.

“We’ve received some information in relation to previous instances of disturbances,” Detective Inspector John Mison said on Thursday.

“This was a few days out of Christmas, this is a very sad reminder of a tragic loss of life.”

Police are knocking on doors in the area and asking anyone with information to come forward.
