A man will face court charged with the murder of a woman at retirement village in central Queensland.

The 74-year-old was found dead at Alexandra Garden in Kawana, a suburb of Rockhampton, on July 16.

It’s understood she was residing in an independent living unit.

Homicide squad and Rockhampton detectives attended the address and began investigating the circumstances of the woman’s death last week.

A 68-year-old man from Kawana had been charged with her murder, police said on Sunday.

He will remain in custody and is expected to appear before Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday.

It will be alleged the pair were known to each other.
