Former CFMEU boss John Setka has been hit with further charges over allegedly threatening and harassing communications sent to administrators of the construction union.

The 61-year-old was arrested at his Footscray home on Friday morning by detectives from Victoria Police’s Taskforce Hawk.

He has since been charged with using a telecommunications device to menace, using a telecommunications device to offend, and two counts of committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Police allege harassing and offensive comments were made online on Monday, August 10.

Setka is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later on Friday.

The latest charges follow a series of previous arrests and charges.

Setka was initially arrested in November 2025 and charged with seven counts of using a telecommunications device to menace, harass and offend.

He was further charged in February with using a carriage service to harass and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Police also allege additional threats were made in July, with an intervention order served on Setka on July 19.

Taskforce Hawk investigates alleged criminal behaviour linked to Victoria’s construction industry, including organised crime and individuals with known links to outlaw motorcycle gangs.

The operation was established in July 2024 before transitioning to a taskforce in June last year in response to fresh allegations of serious and violent criminal behaviour in the industry.
