Aldi is now offering travel packages and deals in its special buys

People often joke that anything can be bought at Aldi, but the supermarket chain has added a new line to its special buys that makes that claim truer than ever.

Aldi has launched a series of exclusive holiday packages in its special buys catalogue, allowing shoppers to access deals on trips to locations like Fiji, Thailand or Australian destinations.

Aldi Australia group director Rodney Balech said the holiday packages range from budget-friendly to extravagant trips.

“We are excited to be taking off in a new direction to make planning and booking a holiday a more enjoyable experience for Australians,” he said.

“With Aldi Holidays we’re bringing our special buys to the skies, offering savvy travellers premium holiday options.”

The longest trip – and most expensive – is a 14-night “Celebrity X Cruise through Japan,” which will set travellers back nearly $5000 per person.

On the other side of the scale, Aldi is offering deals for seven nights in the Novotel Phuket for $599 per person and five nights in Surfers Paradise for $449 per person.

Quentin Long, the founder of Australian Traveller, said the deals won’t be appearing in the aisle of Aldi supermarkets or other travel companies.

“It is an online portal and is only available online,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“What is really interesting is the back end of this and who is actually putting together the travel packages and, most importantly for Australians, who are going to handle the customer service.”

Ignite travel

Aldi is offering travel deals in partnership with Ignite Travel Group, which is a subsidiary of Flight Centre.

Ryan Thomas, CEO of Ignite Travel Group, said the “exclusively curated holiday packages” include flights, local experiences and more.

“Domestic and close-to-home holidays are still desirable and we’re now seeing record numbers for international cruise holidays and small group touring,” he said.

“The collaboration also aligns with our goal to support and grow our supplier channels to deliver an unparalleled distribution.”

Ignite Travel is based in Queensland and Long confirmed that its customer support centre would be based on the Gold Coast.

Limited number

Aldi also confirmed that there would be a limited number of deals on offer, like its other special buys, and they will only be available until sold out.

Thomas said “customers can expect incredible savings”.

“We are excited to partner with Aldi to bring a range of leisure and luxury travel options to more Australians,” he said.

“We’re excited about the future of our partnership with Aldi.”

According to Aldi’s press release, the holidays will come with customisable options ranging from preferred airlines and department airports to adjustable lengths of stays and room upgrades.

Other locations available include Sri Lanka, Bali, South Africa, China and Europe, alongside Australian destinations such as the Whitsundays and the Gold Coast.
