Australian customers who hold an account with Ticketek may have had their data stolen in another “cyber incident” targeting a major ticketing company.
Ticketek says the names, dates of birth and email addresses of customers may have been exposed in the breach.
Customers’ data that was stored on a cloud-based platform by a global third-party supplier had been affected, the ticketing company said in a statement.
“Since our third-party supplier brought this to our attention, over the past few days we have worked diligently to put every resource into completing an investigation, so that we can communicate with you as quickly as possible,” Ticketek said in an email sent to some of its customers.
“The available evidence at this time indicates that, from a privacy perspective, customer names, dates of birth and email addresses may have been impacted,” the company said.
Earlier this week, a hacker claimed to have stolen customers’ credit card and other details from rival ticket company Ticketmaster.
The hacker group ShinyHunters was allegedly attempting to sell 560 million users’ stolen data after claiming to have hacked the ticketing giant, owned by Live Nation.
It was not known if Australian customers of Ticketmaster were exposed.
Minister for Cyber Security Clare O’Neil said Ticketek Australia had informed the National Office of Cyber Security that “data belonging to their customers has been stolen”.
The National Cyber Security Co-ordinator said the Australian Signals Directorate and the Australian Federal Police were also aware of the incident.
“Ticketek advises that customer names, dates of birth and email addresses may have been impacted,” said the National Cyber Security Co-ordinator on X.
“We welcome the timely approach taken by Ticketek to notifying its affected customers.”
