A man has been arrested as police investigate a possible hit-and-run incident after the body of another man in his 30s was found on a suburban Sydney street.
Emergency services were called to an intersection in Mount Pritchard, in the city’s southwest, early on Wednesday morning after reports of a man in the street with serious injuries.
Paramedics attended the scene but the man was declared dead.
He has since been identified as a 31-year-old from Auburn, about 15km away.
Police established a crime scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident amid suspicion the man had been a victim of a hit-and-run.
Officers began door-knocking houses on the street and appealed to drivers who might have been in the area at the time to assist with their investigation.
Following inquiries, police seized a Lexus sedan at a house not far from where the body was found with plans to take it away for forensic examination.
A 55-year-old man was arrested at the house and taken to Fairfield police station, where he is assisting police.
No charges have been laid.
Inspector Benjamin McIntyre earlier called on anyone with information to contact investigators.
“We’d be calling for any people who were travelling on Pritchard Street at Mount Pritchard between 2am and 3am to make contact with police, especially if you have dashcam footage,” he said.
“We’ll spend the rest of the morning canvassing the surrounding streets looking for CCTV footage.”
