A man has been arrested and four people taken to hospital after an alleged stabbing attack in Melbourne.

Media report an agitated man was launching at people on the street near a busy shopping precinct in Moonee Ponds.

The incident happened around 1.15pm Wednesday near Puckle Street.

Police were called following triple-0 reports of a man assaulting people.

News outlets are reporting that he was stabbing members of the public.

The 36-year-old man was later arrested near Moonee Ponds train station.

Four people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Moonee Valley CIU are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said.

The man was detained in custody.
