Man on ride-on mower charged with high-range drink driving

A man who drove a ride-on mower through a Queensland town has been charged with high-range drink driving.
The middle-aged man allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration four times the legal limit.
The 51-year-old was caught heading in the wrong direction on Herbert Street, Ingham, north of Townsville, in the town’s central business area about 1am on Sunday.
Police said while it might seem like a funny incident, the drink-driving behaviour could easily have ended in a serious crash.
“Police pulled over the vehicle before the driver allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test,” said a police statement.
He allegedly blew 0.191, and has been issued a notice to appear in court charged with drink-driving.
He is expected to appear at Ingham Magistrates Court on September 7.
Senior Sergeant Robert Nalder said it was lucky the man hadn’t caused a serious incident.
“If you’re drinking, please don’t get behind the wheel of any vehicle,” Senior Sergeant Nalder said.
“The harsh reality is that if police hadn’t been there to intervene, we could have been dealing with a serious traffic crash.”
“It is a choice that motorists make to drink drive. And that decision can have catastrophic consequences for other road users and their families.
“We urge all motorists, please make the right choice.”
